Kerala is a place of serenity and wonderment. This place is made beautiful by its natural sceneries, rich wildlife, sparkling water bodies and lovely weather. The backwaters of Kerala are very famous.

The coastal regions of Kerala are populated by a network of water ways, inlets from the sea, estuaries of more than forty lakes, rivers and natural canals meandering through the coastal towns. Kerala has about 900 km of navigable coastal area which is being used by the people for transportation since centuries. The best part of a Kerala backwater tour is a cruise on a houseboat which allows people to enjoy the scenic beauty of the backwaters.

One among the famous backwaters in Kerala is the Alappuzha backwaters. Alappuzha is also known as the ‘Venice of the East’. It is endowed with the tranquil backwaters of the Arabian Sea. Sailing on the kettuvalloms or houseboats on the crisscrossing network of lakes, lagoons, canals and fresh water rivers can be very refreshing and enjoyable. Alappuzha is also known for its cultural and traditional benchmark. Snake boat races are a very famous event in this place. People throng to see the spectacular regattas of the long thin boats driven by upto 120 oarsmen with ultimate coordination and exemplary team spirit. The place is also famous for its marine products, coir industry, rice, bananas, yams and cassava. Bird lovers come to have a glimpse of the rare migratory birds at Pathiramanal, which is not more than half an hour drive on a speedboat. Mullackal temple, Krishnapuram temple and St. Andrew’s church are the other attractions
