Well...I'm a Navy Veteran ('90-'94 & '99-'03), coming from a poor upbringing (welfare & living in the projects), born into a family that was filled with both love, laughter & warmth...and at the same time dealing with neglect, despair & unfair treatment from non-immediate family members. I've always been sort of the black sheep of my family: never indulging in any of the bad habits or attitudes reflected by those around me. And yet, even if I could, I wouldn't change a thing, because seeing the downside to life early has always kept me humble, respectful & thankful for what little I DID have. And to me, those values are gifts not possessed by most peole these days. I've pulled myself away from the negativity & live a decent life that I'm just waiting to share with a decent person.
