Growing up I had a privileged life. My father was an owner of a woman's department store named after our last name. He built this business from the ground up. So we became well known in the little town. Not to mention that my parents had us attend the biggest church with the most influence in the town. My parents were involved in many activities including president of YMCA, president of performing art, having a catering company on the side, dinner clubs, and many many more activities that happened through the years.
The reason I list my parents lives is because what happened to them indirectly involved me. When I was 14 I started working in the Juniors department in my Father's store. It was funny. Whenever I got in trouble at home he would always fire me at work. Whenever I screwed up at work he would always ground me at home. I know that sounds messed up but never,ever ever work with parents especially when you are a teenager.
But because of my parents I lived off of their name. I introduced myself as "Hi I'm insert name I'm so and so's daughter" I did this almost through til I was 21 when I was able to get a job on my own name and never have used my father's name for a job since.
But being back home I feel that love and remembrance of old times and how we were and who I come from when people ask where I am living and what I am doing now. Life at home may seem nice to visit but Slidell really feels like my real home. I just need to find the connections with people that I seem to not have.
