Shift in the Thanksgiving Gifting Trends

Thanksgiving dates back to 1621 when a group of English people came and settled in America in 1620 during the rough winter conditions. Most of them could not survive but those who did, attempted to grow crops for sustenance though they had no knowledge of farming in this new frontier. The Wampanoag tribe came to their rescue and taught them the method of farming.

The new settlers got a bumper harvest and wanted to thank the Almighty and express their gratitude to the Wampanoag tribe as well. All were invited to the grand feast where the natives brought their own harvest food as well. This is how the custom of Thanksgiving was born.

Thanksgiving is celebrated in America on the fourth Thursday of November and is a time to have fun with loved ones and friends. The family gets together to give thanks to the Creator and spending quality time with family. Thanksgiving dinner is a complete family affair and Thanksgiving gifts are mainly gifts related to the table to make the dinner experience more enjoyable and memorable.

Thanksgiving changed over the years with people expressing their gratitude towards family and friends along with thanks to the Almighty. Families get together on Thanksgiving and enjoy the traditional sumptuous meal that have been painstakingly prepared. Later, friends too were invited over to join the Thanksgiving dinner with the host preparing the traditional Turkey and the friends who came over would get gifts for the host. Traditionally gifts brought were wine bottles, table cutlery, centerpieces or fruit baskets.

Gifting trends have changed with change in technology. Electronic gadgets and appliances have gained popularity as Thanksgiving gifts due to its high versatility. These now include music players, game consoles, tablets and kitchen appliances too. The son chooses to gift his father with an iPad!

A long weekend for Thanksgiving has made it very convenient to make it a travel weekend. It is one of the busiest times for travel for most people. Remember to plan your holiday well in advance. With so many getaway options available a lot of dating couples gift a holiday to their partner.

Expressing gratitude through gifts has always been the norm. With the change in lifestyle the trends in gifting has changed considerably. The scope of gifting has further narrowed down to men, women and kids.

A guy can be gifted wine tumblers, bar set, engraved wine bottle stoppers, monogrammed party plates, thermometer, tool set, photo frames and eatables. A woman can be gifted knive sets, electric knife, napkin ring sets, wine bottles, gourmet herb garden basket, wine stoppers, cookware, pitcher, place-mats, cookie jars and a whole lot of eatable goodies. For the teenagers nail art patches, boxers, candy or lollipops make an acceptable gift. For a child it can be books with pictures and clothes.

Unique Thanksgiving gifts which are eco-friendly too have become highly popular. There are re-usable paper plates, organic fruit basket. Others unique gift options are universal remote control bottle opener; nail patches, set of olive oil, ceramic decanters, Swiss cheese boards, cheese plates and bottle openers. For couples who are dating, a weekend spent together at some destination as per the interest of both is one of the awesome gifts that can be given for Thanksgiving.

Thanksgiving gift basket can be loaded with various gift articles besides the traditional one too. The change in thinking and attitude towards life has a tremendous impact on Thanksgiving gifts that have become more utility gifts rather than simply following the tradition of restricting the gifts to table gifts.

There is another article about an Indian dating site named TwoMangos or something like that. In the article it says that the new site uses a model much like JumpDates where you need points to contact people. This was news to me. I thought that JumpDates was 100% completely free. This new points system that we now have, at some point in the future are we going to need those points to contact people?

  1. David says:

Interesting. None of those five things would bother me.

Yeah, women having more pictures and doesn’t mind staying at home versus going makes me no difference, but definitely no drama…

  1. steve says:

    right on, it obvious

  2. David says:

Staying up all night having sex before a competition is bad for you? We had to conduct a study to show this?

I read that diamonds are very common and very cheap. The diamond mines hoard the diamonds to artificially increase the rarity so that they can charge more money for them.

  2. nensi says:

I agree with David, if it is a real diamond ring it will be great. In my country the tradition is to give the ring of grandmother which are precious because are handmade.

  3. me me says:

It was either Nero or King Tut. My answers seem as qualified and more pointed than yours.

  4. Richie002 says:

Diamond rings are girls best friends.. And I agree to David because diamond rings are the best rings to be used in marriage ceremony.

  5. suzana_20012 says:

ring indicating that the person wearing it is engaged to be married, especially in Western cultures.Conventionally, the woman’s ring is presented as a betrothal gift by a man to his prospective spouse while he proposes marriage or directly after she accepts his marriage proposal. It represents a formal agreement to future marriage. After marrying, the couple may wear both engagement rings and wedding rings, or if they prefer, only the wedding rings. Some brides have their engagement and wedding rings permanently soldered together after marriage.

  6. Jantonio says:

This is all part of a ritual generally accepted in the West. Somehow it’s an anchor on a day that turns out to be unforgettable.

  1. it is more security for both parties.

  2. David says:

Most people don’t have so much info online that you can just Google them and find out that they are lying.

  1. David says:

The article says “However, most of the experts that denied the fact that just because you are on an online dating sites looking for a date or a life partner means you are not able to find it in the real world.” The sentence makes no sense whatsoever. Maybe they were trying to say “Most of the experts agreed that just because you are on an online dating site looking for a date or a life partner does not mean you are not able to find it in the real world.”?

  2. Jantonio says:

In my view, online contacts represent an extension of your contact possibilities. Being online is the chance to be in contant with people who naturally would not be possible.

  3. GoldenSmile says:

I definitely disagree with online dating meaning “defeat”. I think the Internet is a great alternative to dating. At least, you are able to choose a person to get to know before they actually speak…..I found that guys have more confidence online in stepping up to the plate and striking a conversation.

  4. shah alam says:

Virtual dating service is important now in this world its a time demands. before internet it was impossible to find or make friendship with the unknown person any where in this world, but due to internet most of the people are so nearer to each other……………………………..

  5. kevrow says:

on line dating can be a good thing. but why is there a lot of sites that when you join they send you lots of messages. from people that wish to contact you. then when you pay for your membership to read them there is no more. it can be a good thing but you can get taken for a lot of cash.

  2. enoughcry says:

Relationship is a long journey on it own…
It should be about trust and understanding…To make it work,Both parties have to be ready to try give in their best to make up and not break ups.Letting go of ones pride is nothing..if only it is for a good coarse or reason…So lovers should try not to be guided with or by their pride especially in relationship…

  5. Marlagail says:

I know women cheat, but I choose not to ever. I believe in being faithful to my man.

  6. Rsoe says:

Cheating is not ok in my book. If a man/woman does this then the relationship was never meant to be.

  7. michelle says:

i dont support cheating in a relationship and ever will i do.. I love it wen both partners in a relationship are truthfull to each other. That how a relationship work out and last longer..

  2. OGsmoke1971 says:

you can say that, but the statistics show women initiate almost all divorces. 60% plus the men who are forced to divorce because the woman cheated or moved out equals 90% of divorces. So if you’re saying its not rocket science then it must mean almost all men know but are not giving it to them, in which case I call B.S.! It tells me no matter what the man does, women are going to make up a reason to break it off. Saying most men know and don’t give it to them would be generalizing men, and we all know, you can’t generalize. It has to be something else.

  3. hunkyi says:

Divorces cases are oftened initiated by women as they are not happy in their married life. Some husbands are so cruel that they regularly beat up their wives and other women are mentally totured. I think men should also respect the liberty and sheer existance of women. It is a woman who gives birth to men. Married women should be respected and be kept satisfied in their lives.

  4. David says:

Arguments about money will definitely lead to divorce.

  5. cindy says:

    so would being unfaithful

  1. David says:

This is nuts! You do NOT give gifts on Thanksgiving unless you think bringing a pumpkin pie is a gift! Who was the idiot that decided to turn Thanksgiving into Christmas? Not for me! Not going to happen.

  2. cindy says:

never heard of gifts on thanksgiving

  3. Michelle says:

It certainly depends on giving gift is an option to you or you want to give it from the heart. People who think giving gift is not their style of celebrating thanks giving should read this.

  1. Brenda says:

thats a lovely thing to do.

  2. David says:

You can do anything you want to do on Black Friday.

  3. cindy says:

    i agree with that

  1. [...] 3. Why not some fun activity Many dating experts will discourage you from doing anything too active during the first date, however, you can learn a lot from each other when you are spontaneous and engaged in some kind of light activity. 1. David says:
