Online dating has come a long way since the first publicized sites of the late 90s like match.com.

This was followed by a number of free dating sites that offered similar features as the bigger paid sites but had a smaller loyal following such as Jumpdates.com and Plentyoffish.com.
Since then, it has been a race to getting as many users to the site as possible with entries such as Udate.com and Kiss.com.
There have been some acquisitions and transitions of some of the bigger dating sites during the early part of this decade but since then the primary focus has been of expansion.
