Article Subject: 26. Conclusion - Other resoureces to turn to for locating great dating websites.

Dr. Dato’s Brief:

We have covered the many ways of using the search engines especially Google to locate great free dating websites and to be observant in areas where it will save you a great deal of time and effort down the line.

The recommendations and suggestions noted in this series are by no means a complete set and you can turn to many other channels to refine your search and save you precious time. Some of these include going to the library and looking at ‘online dating’ related material on this subject and also don’t be shy about asking the clerk to help you.

As it just happens, the public library is taking an interest in this area by presenting useful seminars similar to this event I have reported earlier, Looking for love? Start at the public library.

Finally, don’t overlook the obvious, for example, your daily encounters with other people who can not only help you with referrals to quality dating sites but may even introduce you to singles who are in the same boat. Keep all your options open and most important of all, don’t give up too easily. Good Luck!

Article Subject: 16. Using Google’s dynamic keyword suggestions

Dr. Dato’s Brief:

So we have learnt that variations of keywords can produce search engine results (SERPs) that can be more targeted towards your needs, however, remember that at the end of the day the keywords and phrases are only as good as the search engine itself.

Search engine are fallible just like we humans, after all they try to produce results in a ‘humanistic’ way. The areas where the problems can arise is in words or phrases that have an ambiguous meaning. However, Google in particular has been smart in that department where it actually produces a list of different results each with it’s own meaning and presumably, if you clicked on it, the next instance it would know what your intention was for that word.

This kind of learning power has made the search engine even more powerful and useful to our daily lives, cutting away the effort required to reach our end goal. Try it out and ‘observe’ the behavior of the search engines and see how much it actually ‘remembers’ from what you typed in previously and how it presents the data to you.

We have shown how to spot review sites that may have their interest in heart rather than yours. In the same way that some salesmen can exaggerate or color the truth, the same can happen on the internet.

As mentioned before, one way of being reassured of legitimate reviews is to look for users comments regarding anything your want to purchase or interested in such as dating reviews in this case.

Comments today can be actively made on any posts these days since the dawn of the blog era about a few years back and the facebook has made this more easily possible. You will notice that many sites leave a reply box with your name, email and subject to respond to a post and some of these sites can already be populated with your login information. For example disqus is a popular social plugin that users can comment without having to relogin. See the photo below.

Look for genuine comments made and one where it hasn’t been moderated by hand. You can often tell this by comments that appear to be a few words in length and some with a few paragraphs.

Earlier we talked about how review sites can be helpful to your cause in locating good free dating sites, however, you need to be aware of any indirect affiliation of the website with other paid dating sites.

The other tell-tale signs for review sites that are not always revealing the ‘truth’ are as follows;

1. Almost all the reviews point to a handful of the top dating sites such as Match, Eharmony, Chemistry etc.
There are very good reasons they do this, it is because if you drive traffic to their sites the payout can be very handsome!

2. How to determine exactly if the reviewer is an affiliate member of the dating companies
Take a look at the referring url, it will consist of a lengthy string that emanates from the reviewing site and lands on the paid dating site. In this way the paid dating site can track the targeted visitor having come from the reviewed site and follow the user through the site until he/she signs up and the reviewer will get paid as a result.

There is nothing inherently wrong with this technique and it is one of the primary ways that webmasters make money and keep the big companies moving. However, if the information from the affiliated site is skewed and false and drives users in this manner then it is at fault.

Using search engines to locate good free dating sites - Part 6b - Online Dating Briefs by Dr. Dato

Article Subject: 6b. The rudiments of a search engine

Dr. Dato’s Brief:

«« Previous

Previously we discussed how search engines have become a common part of our daily lives and for many people it has changed the way we we work. For example, when doing research or troubleshooting we turn to the search engine to locate not only the correct website but the actual page that contains what we are seeking.

Such granularity is what made search engines so useful and powerful and to understand some of it’s inner workings help us to be more efficient and productive with the application. In essence there is a lot going on under the ‘hood’ of the search engine and what it presents to the user is deceptively simple.

If you look at Fig. 1, you will see the structure of the Google search results page and what is represented in the various sections of the page. Essentially there are three core sections and they are very clearly defined as ’sponsored listings’, ‘organic search results’ and ‘adwords paid listings’.

The sponsored listing is where you will only see at the most three adverts above the organic results section and this is because Google is true to it’s original motto of providing an unbiased result sets based on it’s unique search algorithms. This is the reason why Google still retains the top position in search engines because it caters to the end user and if it ended up serving the interests of the advertisers it will lose the world wide audience.

The organic listings is the area that you will be most likely be interested in because this is the section where the ‘best’ matches are found based on the keywords that you typed in. These are the results coming directly from the heart of the Googles engine and is based on it’s unique search engine to give you the ‘end user’ with the most relevant and useful matches possible.

To the right is the Adwords listing that is available to anyone wishing to advertise on this space and compete for keywords bids through the Paid Per Click advertising (PPC). However the organic listing is the most important section where you will be conducting your searches to find the best free dating sites.
