Earlier we talked about how review sites can be helpful to your cause in locating good free dating sites, however, you need to be aware of any indirect affiliation of the website with other paid dating sites.
The other tell-tale signs for review sites that are not always revealing the ‘truth’ are as follows;
1. Almost all the reviews point to a handful of the top dating sites such as Match, Eharmony, Chemistry etc.
There are very good reasons they do this, it is because if you drive traffic to their sites the payout can be very handsome!
2. How to determine exactly if the reviewer is an affiliate member of the dating companies
Take a look at the referring url, it will consist of a lengthy string that emanates from the reviewing site and lands on the paid dating site. In this way the paid dating site can track the targeted visitor having come from the reviewed site and follow the user through the site until he/she signs up and the reviewer will get paid as a result.
There is nothing inherently wrong with this technique and it is one of the primary ways that webmasters make money and keep the big companies moving. However, if the information from the affiliated site is skewed and false and drives users in this manner then it is at fault.

Previously we described how a ’snippet’ that shows up in a Google page is helpful to understanding what the website is about before just randomly clicking away on the first set of results.
Since the aim of this series is to get you trained in locating ‘free dating sites’ and good ones at that, we have other websites that can actually take out the drudgery of locating good dating sites for you. However, a word of caution on these review sites. If you read by post A word about dating review sites, you will know that some sites have been setup with no intention of providing an unbiased view of dating sites and they are merely pushing their ‘affiliated dating sites’ in order to make money.
Good review sites should be honest and unbiased towards any affiliation with other websites and give a straightforward view of the dating site for the end user. You will find the reviews of many dating sites that we have done in this blog are exactly that.

Previously, we discussed the merits of asking people you already know about their experiences in online dating. Remember, not all online dating experiences are rosy and it can be a very much of a personal taste. The key is to ask enough people so you can get a better idea of where you stand but at the end of the day, you need to clear as to your requirements.
Here, we will talk about asking yourself insightful questions before you embark on the journey to search for your partner through an online dating agency and live the rest of your life in total bliss.
First, ask yourself the following questions:
- ‘How serious am I in finding a soul-mate’
- ‘Will I be able to devote sufficient time to this venture’
- ‘Am I willing to learn and overcome disappointments and keep moving’
As you can see, these three attributes are important to your success on the online dating scene. You need to be serious, spend enough time and not give up easily. In the next part, we will focus on the actual nitty-gritty of using search engines to find the various dating websites that will put you in a strong position to find your soul-mate. Here is another good post on advise for online daters, although I think they took the “Thou shalt..’ a bit too far 
Instead of going through the entire list, I will only mention the pertinent ones.
2. Thou Shalt Put Others Before Thyself
A fair comment on where some people unobtrusively make their profile sound too much like “I”. Ideally you want to mention more about the person you want to meet and also have a common ground to talk about ie. activities that you like doing etc.
3. Thou Shalt Read Profiles Before Communicating
Good point in that most messages sent by users are not specific enough and sounds like the person just skimmed over the profile. If you want to add value to your message you need to read the profile and message appropriately with some substance.
7. Thou Shalt Be Unique
This pertains to the user making his profile and activities unique enough so that it stands out from the crowd. For example, a popular facebook profile gets attention because its always engaged with interesting stuff and therefore draws an audience.

A nice useful post that reflects on the online and offline statistics of meeting people on dating sites.
It has been shown that online dating has become a major medium of choice for people to meet other people and it has been estimated that 23 percent of the couples have met this way in the US alone. However, it was also noted that rate of partnering hasn’t changed especially for women and people offline relationship habits have remained the same. Online dating has become a replacement for offline social dating outlets.
Many people remain distrustful of the online dating profiles since its easy to fudge age and weight and it has been compared to writing a resume where positive attributes are emphasized which can often lead to disappointments in the offline meeting.
Another statistic reported in the post says that the greater time you delay the offline meeting, the greater chance of failing because your expectations are raised too high before you even meet that person.
The final note recommends that you use the online dating sites more realistically ie. use it to filter out the desirables and then have the face to face meeting as early as possible.
